Agricultural value chain prioritization: Findings from an economywide modeling exercise for Rwanda
This seminar examined results from a forward-looking application of Rwanda’s most up-to-date economywide model to identify the impact of value chain development across four dimensions: generating economic and sectoral growth; reducing national and rural poverty; generating jobs and employment (both on-farm and in the broader agri-food system); and improving diet quality.

Agriculture is fraught with risk. The type and severity of these risks varies by crop, market, agroecology, and institutional context. Rwanda’s fourth Strategic Plan for Agriculture Transformation (PSTA 4), which began in 2018 and continues to 2024, has prioritized a number of risk mitigation investments such as infrastructure development, technological innovation, and improved management of land, soils, and water.
